NANT DISTILLERY MINIATURES
The Nant Distillery is a farm-based, malt whisky distillery. It is situated on the historic Nant Estate (circa 1821) at Bothwell in the central highlands of Tasmania. At the centre of the distillery complex is the heritage-listed Old Mill, built in 1823. The original mill stones and water wheel have been restored and are used in the production process for gristing barley. Nant Estate remains a working farm, growing barley and breeding Angus cattle and Suffolk sheep.
The distillery is a boutique operation, with a capacity of about 300 100-litre casks per year. It is equipped with an 1800 litre wash still and a 600 litre spirit still. A malting plant is currently being developed to malt barley grown on the Estate. For maturation port, sherry and bourbon barrels are used.
Visitors are welcome to visit the distillery for a guided tour, which finishes with a dram in the whisky bar and Atrium Lounge.
Thanks to Chris Condon (distiller) for his kind support.
