GLENGOYNE DISTILLERY PICTURES
Glengoyne Distillery situated just north of Glasgow in the Blane Valley beneath the rolling Campsie Hills at the gateway to the Highlands, has been distilling whisky legally since 1833. Little has changed in the traditional methods that have been employed to create their good dram. Today, the distillery continues to flourish, a testimony to the quality of the product and the flexibility of their team.
Ian Macleod & Co. acquired Glengoyne Distillery in April 2003, together with the Glengoyne Single Malt and Langs Blended Whisky brands. The acquisition of Glengoyne Distillery fulfilled Ian Macleod's strategic objective to become a fully integrated distiller, blender and bottler. Glengoyne and Langs were purchased from the Edrington Group. Broxburn-based Ian Macleod is an independent family-owned company with blending and bottling interests. The acquisition of Glengoyne secures a future for Ian Macleod in single malt whisky.
Glengoyne is known as the distillery that produces unpeated whisky. The distillery is since very busy making changes, not to the whisky but to the surroundings of the production. The visitor centre and shop look very nice and for interested people there is the opportunity to blend your own whisky. A nice feature I was allowed to test for myself, and although I am more of a malt drinker I was proud to have produced my own blend.
Regarding the whiskies from Glengoyne, there is also a lot to tell. Since Ian Macleod took over the distillery is bringing a lot of whiskies on the market ranging from a ‘Scottish oak’, a cask strength 12 year old, to some single casks that were chosen by the still men.
