GLENMORANGIE DISTILLERY VISIT 2008

Arriving at Glenmorangie Distillery the first you see is a building site. Yes, a building site, the success of the whisky industry and especially Glenmorangie makes that LVHM decided to enlarge the distillery. So when you arrive at the distillery the first thing you see, is the contractors working on the new building that is added.

Glenmorangie is one of the few distilleries that does not sell their whisky for blending. The worldwide number 3 on the malt whisky market needs all the whisky the produce for their own malt whisky. Recently the distillery already underwent a complete change in the whisky range, where the regular 10 year old was replaced with “The Original”. The whole range got a revamp to fit in with the LVHM image.

When visiting the distillery, you are taken around for a nice tour. Visiting a lot of distilleries, the story is of course the same as the malt whisky process is always the same. So you get a sound story that you hear everywhere. Different is when you arrive in the still house. The still look very strange towards the stills of most distilleries. The very long necked stills stand in lines of 4 and look immaculate, as does the whole still house.

The warehouse is also part of the tour and yes, you are allowed to make pictures in the still house and warehouse. The tour was nice, the distillery looked perfect and the personnel were very friendly. So it surely is worth a visit. It makes you wonder how things will be if the distilleries expansion is finished.
