April 30th 2015:

Today is the anniversary of my website, the first edition of “Paul’s Whisk(e)y Miniature World” was published on April 30th 2003. Back then I had limited room and was only able to show a part of my collection, were as now I am showing my whole collection on the internet. At least, the part that I already have registered, as you can see, I already started (re-)publishing some picture sets of my distillery visits. Within the next few weeks I will also start adding pictures again of the miniatures in my collection that are not published yet.

What basically started as a system to have all the miniatures in my collection on hand (on my laptop), grew out to be Paul’s Whisk(e)y Miniature World. I started this with the idea that other people might have some benefit from it. To let them know what is around and maybe give some ideas in their hunt for new miniatures. I hope I succeeded in that and hope to be able to go on for some more years.

I will have a dram on the anniversary and hope you will too.

Sláinte and happy hunting.

April 6th 2015:

It has been a while since there was an update to this website.

During 2014 some less pleasant things happened. Also however, positive things happened. My collection still grew and I had for the first time in 3 years’ time to visit Scotland.

There was some interest from the media. I was interviewed for the Dutch whisky magazine “Whisky Passion”, the interview appeared in the April issue of the magazine. Further, Gwen Jansen was at my home filming for the documentary “Nederland Whiskyland”. The documentary was premiered in September and there is a little room in there for me. Info about these media appearances you can find in the ‘IN THE MEDIA’-section, that is added now.

Also there was a piece in “Whisky Passion” asking if Scotland would have to be afraid for the “rest of the world” whiskies. I was also asked for my input, which appeared in the magazine.

During the last half year is saw a lot of people presenting beautiful whiskies of course everyone knows all the beautiful Scotch whisky distilleries, with a lot of new distilleries opening, Wolfburn, Ardnamurchan (Adelphi) and Kingsbarn (Wemyss) to name a few.

But also in other countries a lot is happening. In Ireland Teeling and The Irishman are starting their own distillery.

Also a lot of good “rest of the world” whiskies have passed the review:

Last week I had a tasting of products from the Buffalo Trace distillery, too bad that on a sold out festival only 4 people were interested in these beautiful whiskies. Brand ambassador James Cowan presented the distillery and their whiskies in a great fashion, but still has a lot of work to get these beautiful whiskies to the public. Bourbon, rye, wheat it’s all there, and certainly worthwhile.

The same goes for Heaven Hill who also have great whiskies and are not too well known in Europe.

What to say about all the artisan distilleries that are appearing in the U.S.A., once of the most prominent at the moment to me is Koval. They produce organic and kosher whiskies, ranging from bourbon, rye, wheat, four grain and millet.

In Asia there is also a lot of great whiskies to find. Everybody knows Suntory and Nikka, but watch out for the new kid on the block – Chichibu, an small distillery (especially for Japan) with great tastes. This whisky is an incredible revelation which might even be the next whisky of the year.

In India Amrut and John Paul are single malts that are growing from strength to strength, and in Taiwan Kavalan distillery is also showing great quality.

If course, Australia has some great distilleries on Tasmania, Lark, Overeem, Tasmania (Sullivan’s Cove) distilleries make great whiskies.

But also in Europe there are some nice things happening. In France Armorik is turning from the ugly duckling into a beautiful princess. The quality of their whiskies is going from strength to strength. This also goes for the Swedish Mackmyra distillery. Also quite remarkable is Säntis distillery in Switzerland.

Closer to home, there are great distilleries in Belgium, Belgian Owl and Gouden Carolus bring whiskies that are quite young, but of great promise and quality. Last but not least there is Dutch Zuidam distillery, their Millstone whiskies are of great quality and certainly a whisky to be proud off.

So there is certainly a lot going on in the whisky world. There are also a lot of new miniatures which I will start adding to my website in the near future. I will start up again, getting my website in order again. I hope the waiting for new info will be worthwhile.

Thank you for your patience.

October 16th 2013:

A new beautiful idea in the Netherlands, they are working on a documentary about whisky in the Netherlands. To get the necessary money they organized a crowd funding. Let’s hope they will be able to pull it off.
